Born
on the Main, reared on the Lahn and settled on the Saar
–
yet still at home on the Kenmare River.
Grandson, son, brother and father of pipe smokers, enjoyed
my own first pipe at 14. Was that even before my first
kiss? For sure!
As a student, made a "pilgrimage" to Copenhagen
in a Citroen 2 CV. Bought and marvelled at Larsen and
Bang, was bowled over by Ann Julie. Scrimped and saved.
Have since become a lawyer, husband, and father of three
children. Have acquired the tranquillity, carefulness
and patience necessary to make pipes.
Earlier – still in those rough-and-ready years –
made friends with Pit Rohrbach.
Mutual interests unite: Ireland, old English sports cars,
Bonsai... and the love of seafood.
And for some time now, that of pipe making. |

1953
– Düsseldorf – goldsmith and pipe maker.
Sure, there are more important things in life: my wife,
sailing and old cars.
It's still, however, always fascinating to combine precious
wood with my profession.
Unfortunately, the briar blanks I choose myself in Tuscany
only suffice to produce one or two pipes a month.
Given this excellent wood grain, it makes sense to apply
gold or silver here.
It's best I smoke the pipes with spots myself.
I therefore grade using silver and gold. For pipes with
an outstanding grain I envisage a diamond trim –
or maybe platinum?. The possibilities are infinite …
I hope that you too will succumb with fascination to the
combination of artistic goldsmith craftsmanship and Nature. |

Born
in Kamen in 1968, grew up in Dortmund.
Wended his way to Wuppertal to study, then put down roots
in the "Monorail City". Smoked his first pacifier
after 16 summers, has been involved with the subject of
tobacco pipes ever since. In the year 2000, succumbed
– with success – to the overwhelming urge
to make a pipe himself; has worked as a self-employed
pipemaker since 2006. Became acquainted with the two "rivals"
Wallenstein and Rohrbach in 2006. Were real friends and
good advisors from the very start. Addicted to the Bulldog
and Volcano shape in pipemaking, but displaying a highly-varied
orientation. A craftsman with artistic touch, a perfectionist
yet always willing to make compromises. Merciless and
unyielding with his finishes; a slave to the wood grain.
Fascinated and influenced by Poul Ilsted; enthused and
always motivated to carry on by Anne Julie. Member of
B.R.O.S., along with Roger Wallenstein and Axel Glasner.
